Worcester Bosch boiler not working? What to check first

Worcester Bosch combis are among the most common boilers we see across South West London. Most breakdowns come down to a handful of causes — and a few are safe to check yourself before you call.

1. Check the pressure gauge

With the boiler cold, the gauge should sit around 1–1.5 bar. Below 1 bar the boiler may lock out. Your manual explains how to top up using the filling loop; if pressure keeps dropping, there's likely a leak or a faulty valve that needs an engineer.

2. Note the fault code

Write down the code shown on the display. It tells the engineer where to start and can save time on the visit. Ignition and flame faults can be caused by a gas supply issue or, in winter, a frozen condensate pipe outside.

3. Frozen condensate pipe

If it's freezing and the boiler stopped suddenly, check the thin plastic pipe running outside. Pouring warm (not boiling) water over it can thaw it, then reset the boiler once.

When to stop and call us

Don't remove the casing or reset repeatedly. If the boiler keeps locking out, leaks, makes banging noises or you smell gas, stop. For a gas smell, leave the property and call the National Gas Emergency line on 0800 111 999 first.
