Leaking or dripping tap? How to stop it and when to call

A dripping tap wastes water and can stain sinks quickly. Most leaks come from a worn washer, cartridge or O-ring — usually a quick repair.

Drip from the spout

On traditional taps this is a worn washer; on modern lever taps it's usually a ceramic cartridge. Note the tap brand if you can — it helps us bring the right part.

Leak from the base or handle

Usually worn O-rings. Leaks under the sink from the flexible tap connectors need fixing quickly before they damage the unit.

Isolate it first

Look for a small isolation valve on the pipe under the sink and turn the slot a quarter turn. If there isn't one, use the main stopcock.
