New boiler installation
Questions homeowners ask before replacing a boiler.
How much does a new boiler installation cost?
There is no single responsible price: it depends on the boiler make and output, whether it is a like-for-like swap or a change of type, and any pipework, flue or control changes. We survey the property first and then quote individually, so the price you agree is the price for your job — not an estimate that grows.
How long does a boiler installation take?
A straightforward like-for-like combi swap is usually completed in a day. Changing boiler type (for example from a regular boiler with tanks to a combi) or moving the boiler to a new location takes longer, typically two days, because of the extra pipework and flue work. We confirm the expected timescale when we quote.
Should I get a combi, system or regular boiler?
It depends on your hot-water demand and the property. Combi boilers suit most flats and smaller homes with one bathroom. Homes with several bathrooms or high simultaneous hot-water use — common in larger Richmond, Wimbledon and Kingston houses — often suit a system boiler with a cylinder. We advise on the right type during the survey rather than selling one brand or type by default.
Which boiler brands do you install?
We install and work on the major UK brands, including Worcester Bosch (Greenstar / CDi / Junior), Vaillant (ecoTEC plus / pro / exclusive), Ideal (Logic+ / Vogue / Max), Baxi / Potterton / Main, Viessmann (Vitodens) and others. If you have a preference, tell us when booking the survey; otherwise we recommend based on reliability, warranty length and parts availability for your budget.
Do I need to move my boiler, or keep it where it is?
Keeping the boiler in place is almost always cheaper. Moving it can make sense during a renovation or to free up a kitchen cupboard — common requests in Barnes and East Sheen refurbishments — but it adds flue, pipework and condensate work. We price both options so you can decide with real numbers.
How much is it to replace a boiler like-for-like?
A like-for-like swap — same type, same position — is the cheapest way to replace a boiler, but the honest price still depends on the boiler make, output and any flue or control upgrades needed to meet current regulations. We quote individually after a survey, so you get one fixed figure for your job rather than a headline price that grows on the day.
Does home insurance cover boiler replacement?
Usually not for age-related failure — most home insurance policies exclude gradual wear and tear, and boilers are typically covered only for sudden insured events. Some policies include boiler breakdown cover as an add-on, so check your documents. Either way, we can diagnose the boiler first (from £95 fixed) so you know whether a repair or replacement is the right spend before claiming or committing.
Gas engineer services
What a Gas Safe Registered engineer can and should do.
Are your engineers Gas Safe Registered?
Yes. All gas work — boiler repairs, servicing, installations and landlord gas safety certificates — is carried out by Gas Safe Registered engineers. By law, anyone working on gas appliances in the UK must be on the Gas Safe Register, and you should always ask before letting anyone touch your boiler.
What is the difference between a plumber and a gas engineer?
A plumber works on water: taps, pipes, radiators, leaks and drainage. A gas engineer is registered to work on gas appliances such as boilers, hobs and fires. Our engineers cover both sides of domestic heating work, so one visit can deal with a boiler fault and the heating system around it.
Do you issue landlord gas safety certificates (CP12)?
Yes. A CP12 costs £110 fixed and includes an annual boiler service. Landlords must have gas appliances checked every 12 months by law. We can deal directly with tenants or letting agents to arrange access, and the digital certificate is issued the same day.
Can a gas engineer work on my boiler if it is still under warranty?
Yes, as long as the engineer is Gas Safe Registered. Most manufacturers require an annual service by a registered engineer to keep the warranty valid — our £110 boiler service satisfies that. Keep the service record with your warranty documents.
Boiler repairs
Faults, costs and when to repair versus replace.
How much does a boiler repair cost?
Repairs start from a £95 fixed diagnostic: we find the fault and tell you the repair cost before any further work. Common repairs — pumps, valves, ignition parts, pressure sensors — are quoted once we know what has failed, so you approve the price before we proceed.
My boiler has no heating or hot water — what should I check first?
Check the pressure gauge (most boilers sit around 1–1.5 bar when cold), that the thermostat and programmer are calling for heat, and whether an error code is showing. Do not open the boiler casing. If those checks do not restore heat, call us with the boiler make and any error code — it helps us bring the likely parts.
Is it worth repairing an old boiler, or should I replace it?
As a rule of thumb: if the boiler is under ten years old and the repair is a standard part, repair usually makes sense. If it is older, breaking down repeatedly, or needs an expensive part like a heat exchanger, we will say so honestly and quote for a replacement as well, so you can compare.
Do you repair boilers in all our areas?
Yes. Boiler repairs, servicing and installations cover Richmond, East Sheen, Barnes, Putney, Twickenham, Teddington, Wimbledon, Kingston, Wandsworth, Clapham, Battersea, Balham, Tooting, Fulham and Chelsea — including evenings and weekends for breakdowns. Call any time: we answer 24/7 for heating and hot-water failures.
Why does my boiler keep losing pressure?
Repeated pressure loss usually means a small leak somewhere in the heating system — a radiator valve, a joint, or the boiler's pressure relief valve. Topping up repeatedly masks the problem and can corrode the system. We can trace the leak, including hidden pipework, and repair the source.
